2015 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold: Can PV Sindhu finish 2015 on a high?

Can Sindhu finish on a high?

By her standards, PV Sindhu would not be too happy with her performances in 2015. The 20-year-old entered the current after having a fine 2014, where she won her second consecutive World Championship bronze medal, reached the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and also reached the final four of the Denmark Open.

But Sindhu hasn't quite tasted the same kind of success this year. To be fair to her, recovering from a stress fracture and coming back to the court and start putting up good performances is no child’s play.

However, sadly for her and her fans, once the initial dicey period left, the wins just didn't come. Quarterfinals at the World Championships. Round One and two exits at the Japan Open and Korea Open Superseries. Results which an avid Sindhu didn’t associate with and it is never easy to keep a happy face when your favourite player isn’t providing reasons to feel elated.

But the shuttler seemed to find her mojo bit last month, when she reached the finals of the Denmark Open Superseries Premier, where she finished as the runners-up to Li Xuerui, but defeated several top players like Tzu Ying Tai, Wang Yihan and reigning World champion Carolina Marin in the semis to show her real potential.

A first-round exits followed in the French Open and the China Ope, but Sindhu has risen from those defeats yet again, this time at the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold where she has entered the finals after a spirited semifinal win on Saturday, over Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

In the summit clash, Sindhu will be up against Japan’s Minatsu Mitani, an opponent who has had success against her fellow countrymen, Saina Nehwal in recent times and she will hoping to go one better and end the season on a high.
