2016 US Open Grand Prix Gold: Good start for India on Day 1

Sai Praneeth continued his winning run

It was a good start for India on the opening day of the US Open Grand Prix Gold in Canada with 6 of the 7 Men’s Singles shuttlers progressing through to the second round of the competition.

HS Prannoy had an easy outing against Clavin Lin, beating him 21-7 21-6 while reigning Canada Open champion Sai Praneeth also breezed past Henri Huskainen in straight games 21-13 21-12.

RMV Gurusaidutt also had a comfortable opening round match, winning 21-8 21-13 against Phillips Jap of United States while Pratul Joshi and Anand Pawar also registered easy wins in their first round matches.

The only black spot on the day was the loss of Harsheel Dani, who was defeated in straight games by Misha Zilberman 21-18 21-18. Ajay Jayaram got a walkover in his first round match.

The second day’s action will see the Women;s Singles players take to the court as well as the second round matches for the Men’s Singles contenders.
