World No. 1, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia surely has an upper hand, owing to his top ranking. H.S Prannoy, however, shocked the player by defeating him at the Indonesia Open Series Premier to enter the singles quarterfinals. Prannoy, who ranks 25th in the world, made his way into the match with a 0-2 head-to-head record and saw off the three-time Olympic silver medallist Lee 21-10 21-18 in the 40-minute contest at the men’s singles held at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Having achieved this feat, today's match will be a nerve-wracking one, while India's hopes lie in the hands of Pranoy. The 35-year-old Lee easily marched into the men's singles second round after his win against Spain's Pablo Abian with a 21-12, 21-16 win at the Denmark Open. The Malaysian will, however, has to be on top of his game today to make sure he is not on the losing end again.
