Without a doubt, 2017 has been the year of Kidambi Srikanth. On Sunday, he won the French Open title after defeating Japanese qualifier, Kenta Nishimoto in straight sets. In the process of winning the French Open Super Series, the Hyderabad-born shuttler smashed numerous records. We at Sportskeeda list out some of those records for you.

6. Highest Number of Matches won in a Single Year

A couple of days ago, Srikanth Kidambi surpassed Lin Dan to win the most matches in 2017. With Sunday's win, he has extended that tally from 35 to 37. Chinese player Dan has only got 34 match wins to his name. Kidambi had defeated compatriot HS Prannoy in the semifinals before besting Nishimoto with a score of 21-14, 21-13.

5. 1st Indian to 4 Super Series Wins in Calendar Year

Kidambi has also been bestowed the honour of being the first Indian to win 4 Super Series titles in a calendar year. With regard to all-time record, he has joined the likes of Chen Long, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. Twice this year, Srikanth has won back-to-back Super Series titles -- Denmark and French this month and Indonesia and Australia consecutively in June. Only Lee Chong Wei has done that before. Srikanth even surpassed Saina Nehwal's record of 3 SS titles.

Kidambi is also the first Indian player to win the French Open Super Series title. This win will surely be a confidence booster and help propel him towards the Number 1 spot. No one in the Women's segment has ever won the French open as yet.

The Guntur shuttler has been on fire all year and he is set to leapfrog Lin Dan and Son Wang Ho to reach 2nd place. This will be the second highest ranking for an Indian men's singles shuttler, with Prakash Padukone already having reached the number 1 spot before. The new BWF rankings will released on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Kidambi became the second badminton player to win two back-to-back titles in a year, after Lee Chong Wei. Srikanth had won in Indonesia and Australia earlier this year and this month, he won in Denmark and France. Wei has had achieved this feat in 2012, winning the Korea and Malaysia Open, and the Japan and Denmark Open.

There are 3 more Super Series tournaments left up for grabs and Chinese Taipei are the only ones with a reasonable chance of tying with India provided, they can win all 3. On the other hand, India could extend their tally even further judging by Kidambi's fine form.
