India’s Ajay Jayaram progressed through to the second round of the Canada Open, after defeating Shih Kuei Chun of Chinese Taipei 21-10 21-119 in the opening round of the competition on Tuesday.
The opening game saw Chun take an early 4-0 lead, but Jayaram made a quick comeback to first win 2 out of the next 3 points and then levelled the score at 6-6. Following that, it was the Indian’s game all the way as he demolished his Chinese Taipei opponent by winning 8 points on the trot to go 14-6 up and then maintained that lead to eventually win 21-10.

Game 2 proved to be a lot more closer affair with both players going neck-to-neck. the game included three separate phases, where both players were tied level for points but at the 19-19 mark, it was Jayaram who first earned the lone match point opportunity and then converted it to win 21-19 and move into the second round.
He will now face Huang Yuxiang in the second round.
