All England Open 2018: Schedule of India’s second round matches, start time, telecast and how to watch online

YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships - Day Four- 2017
PV Sindhu

The Indian trio of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy made it through to the second round of the All England Open 2018 in Birmingham on Wednesday even as former runner-up Saina Nehwal and B Sai Praneeth departed.

Srikanth had to work the hardest as he came back from a match point down to edge the 23rd ranked Brice Leverdez 7-21, 21-14, 22-20 in a first round tussle that lasted 58 minutes. He will hope to improve his performance in the next round as he takes on the 42nd ranked Huang Yuxiang, a player he has beaten both times they have met.

HS Prannoy caused a big upset when he sent the eighth seed and German Open champion Chou Tien Chen packing in the first round with a 9-21, 21-18, 21-18 win. He will hope to ride on that momentum when he faces the former World No. 3 Tommy Sugiarto. This is their first meeting.

Women’s singles fourth seed PV Sindhu too took some time to settle into her first round clash with the 22nd ranked Pornpawee Chochuwong. She conceded the opener before triumphing 20-22, 21-17, 21-9 over the former World Junior Championships silver medallist.

The World Championships runner-up’s next opponent is the 11th ranked Nitchaon Jindapol. The Thai has beaten Sindhu once in their three meetings so far.

Also in action will be India’s top men’s doubles and mixed doubles pairs. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty meet the formidable Danish combine of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen for the third time in their career.

Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy have their task cut out against the second seeds Wang Yilyu & Huang Dongping.
