Anand Pawar won his first round match in straight games

In a good start for the Men’s Singles campaign, India’s Anand Pawar progressed through to the second round of the 2015 US Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold, being played in New York after beating Martin Giuffre of Canada 21-17 21-15 in the opening round on Tuesday.
Game 1 saw a neck-and-neck contest between the two but at 12-12 mark, it was the Indian who took the lead, winning the next 2 points and despite his Canadian trying to bring the match, back to level terms, Pawar hung on to the advantage to take the opening game 21-17.

The second game proved to be a less stressful affair for Pawar as compared to the first as he won three consecutive points at different stages in the game to win 21-15 and move into the second round of the competition.
