PV Sindhu entered into the next round with an emphatic win

World No.9 and eighth seed PV Sindhu made a winning return to the badminton court on Wednesday, defeating Anait Khurshudyan of Uzbekistan in straight games 21-6 21-5 in the second round of Badminton Asia Championships , held in Wuhan, China.

The 19-year-old looked in total control in her first match, after recovering from a navicular stress fracture on her left leg that kept her out of action for close to three months, winning 8 consecutive points in the first game and completely dominating proceedings.

The second Game was no different as Sindhu once again raced to an early lead and maintained a strong hold on the game, taking it eventually 21-5.

This is the second piece of encouraging news coming in from the Indian singles front in two days. Parupalli Kashyap, who will carry all the hopes in the men’s draw in the absence of Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy, also made a winning start in his first round match yesterday, beating Derek Wong of Singapore in straight games.

In other results, Manu Atri and Sumeeth Reddy received a walkover in their match against Ahmed Shakib Iqbal and Ahmed Faheem Yari of Afghanistan.
