Ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2018 to be held from April 5, there has not been much change for the top Indian shuttlers in the new world rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday, March 29, 2018.

The unstoppable Indian men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has been the only one from the Gold Coast-bound contingent, whose ranking does not remain static. The young pair broke into the top 20 last week for the first time in their careers, but this week they have been displaced from the 20th spot by Hendra Setiawan and Tan Boon Heong. Rankireddy and Shetty have thus slipped one place to 21st.

Meanwhile, national champions Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy maintain their 34th ranking.

In men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy and Sai Praneeth continue to be second, 12th and 15th respectively. Sameer Verma is 37th while 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap is five places below at 42nd.

Ajay Jayaram and Sourabh Verma are the next best Indians at 56th and 59th respectively. National Championships bronze medallist Subhankar Dey climbed a solitary rung to 62nd.

Sindhu and Saina maintain their rankings

In women’s singles, PV Sindhu is the top Indian shuttler at third and 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Saina Nehwal is 12th. The India No. 3 Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, also a part of the squad, is 55th.

Rising women’s singles stars, Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka each rose a couple of spots in the new rankings. While Kudaravalli is 61st, Jakka is right behind her at 62nd. Former national champion Rituparna Das is 86th. Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka occupies the next spot while Saili Rane is 91st and Rasika Raje is 97th.

In women’s doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy are 26th. Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra are 24th in mixed doubles. National champions Ponnappa and Rankireddy climbed one place to 57th.
