India's top shuttler PV Sindhu had to hobble off the courts after she sprained her right ankle during a training session on Tuesday at the SAIL-Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad ahead of the Commonwealth Games. However, her father confirmed that it was just a minor sprain and also added that she will be back on court in a couple of days.

Sindhu was seen in a little bit of pain after the incident and had to leave the scene with her ankle wrapped with a crepe bandage. The physios present examined her ankle for a lengthy period before deciding to take her for precautionary scans.

PV Ramana, Sindhu's father, told Sportskeeda, "It is just a minor sprain. Obviously, it will hurt when you sprain your ankle and that's why she was in some discomfort. However, the MRI scan shows no ligament tear or tissue or damage. She will rest tomorrow but she should be fine to get back on the court in a day or two."

"She will definitely play at the Commonwealth Games. It is a very big event for her, and she is raring to go," he added.

Reports had suggested that Sindhu was training with B Sai Praneeth at the Hyderabad facility when she sustained the injury. However, when contacted, the World No. 15 said he was not there when it happened and was unaware of what exactly happened.

Having made it to the final of the India Open in February and the semi-final of the All England Open earlier this month, Sindhu has been in very good form since the start of the new year. She was pretty impressive at the Asian Badminton Championships as well.

The World No. 3 is set to be the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent for the opening ceremony in Gold Coast and it comes as a relief that her injury is not too serious. She had won the bronze medal at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games but this year, Sindhu is one of the favourites to bag the gold medal.
