In women's singles, India have two of the stalwarts in the game, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. While Saina has already tasted the gold medal, having won the yellow metal in the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games, Sindhu had to settle for bronze in her first appearance at the Games.

This time, though, given her recent form, World No 3 Sindhu goes to Gold Coast as the outright favourite to bag the gold. Her only competition could be from fellow compatriot Saina, defending champion Michelle Li from Canada and Scotland’s Gilmour. Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei and Sonia Cheah might also provide a stiff challenge.

Moving on to men's singles, World No 6 Lee Chong Wei is the only top-20 player in the draw apart from Srikanth and HS Prannoy. Chong Wei, who recently made it to the quarter-finals of the All England Open, will be taking part in what will be his last CWG and will look to take home the top prize. England's Rajiv Ouseph, also, will be a dark horse.
