Day 4 at a glance: Victor China Open 2013

The third round of the Victor China Open 2013 took place on Friday 15th November 2013. The day witnessed 4 matches each in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Men’s Doubles Categories, whereas 3 matches each took place for Women’s and Mixed Doubles.

Indian participation was confined to the 2nd round as Saina Nehwal, Arundhati Pantawane and Kashyap Parupalli failed in their respective matches on Thrusday.

Men’s Singles:

In the Men’s Singles category, Long Chen, Zhengming Wang, Wei Feng Chong and Kento Momota progressed to the semi- finals. Chinese smasher Zhengming Wang defeated his countrymate Pengyu Du by 21-17 and 21-8. Wei Feng Chong crushed Sony Dwi Kuncoro in a 62 minute match.

Women’s Singles:

In the Women’s Singles category, Shixian Wang, Xuerui Li and Li Han of China along with Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand marched ahead to victory. Porntip defeated Yihan Wang in an exciting match that lasted an hour. After losing the first game, Yihan came back strongly to name 2nd game in her name. But her efforts went in vain as Porntip won the third game by 21-16. The other matches only lasted for 2 games.

Mixed Doubles:

Indonesian pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, Nan Jhang and Yunlei Zhao of China and Danish Due of Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen cleared the third round of tournament.

Men’s Doubles:

The Malaysian duo of Thien How Hoon and Wee Kiong Tan, Yun Cai and Biao Chai of China, Yong Dae Lee and Yeon Seong Yoo of Korea and Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan emerged as winners in their round three clashes. The Russian pair of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov gave a tough competition to Malaysian opponents Thien Hoon and Wei Tan. Yong and Yeon struggled in their first game against their country mates Ki Jung Kim and Sa Rang Kim before they made a comeback and snatched the match by dominating in the last two games.

Women’s Doubles:

The Chinese pairs of Qing Tian-Yunlei Zhao, Yixin Bao- Qianxin Zhong, Xiaoli Wang- Yang Yu booked their slots in the semifinal round of the tournament.

On Saturday, 16th November, 2013, all the winners will assemble in the Yuan Shen Gymnasium to play their Semi-final matches.
