Draws out for Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2013

Thirteen Indian players will take part in the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2013 tournament which will be held in the city of Kowloon from 19th November to 24th November. This USD 350,000 tournament is a Superseries category tournament and is the sixth and last Superseries Tournament of the year.

Star Indian shuttler and 7th seeded Saina Nehwal will take on the World No. 30 Bellaetrix Manuputty of Indonesia in the first round. Saina Nehwal is not in the best of the forms as she has not won even a single tournament this year.

Saina’s bad form has also affected her ranking as she has now slipped to 7th spot in the latest BWF World Rankings.Saina, who recently lost to the unseeded Chinese shuttler Yu Sun in the second round of China Open needs to be at her best if she needs to edge past the top shuttlers of the world.

If Saina manages to reach till the quarterfinals, then she could well play the reigning Olympic Champion and World No. 1 Li Xuerui of China.

Indian teenage badminton sensation and World Championships bronze medalist P.V Sindhu had a tough task in the opening round as she will take on the World No. 2 Thai shuttler Intanon Ratchanok.

In men’s singles category Parupalli Kashyap, who jumped to 11th spot in the latest BWF World Rankings will play the World No. 9 Zhengming Wang of China in the first round. If Kashyap gets past the World No. 9 in the opener then he could well play the World No. 2 Chen Long of China in the next round.

Ajay Jayaram, who is currently the World No. 26 will play the World No. 7 Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam while K. Srikanth will lock horns with the World No. 1 Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei in the first round of the tournament.

In men’s singles qualification World No. 30 Anand Pawar will battle out with World No. 64 Wei Nan of Hong Kong in the first qualification round. Pawar, who is also the 3rd seed in the qualification needs to win two matches to make it through to the main draw of the tournament.

In men’s doubles World No. 34 Indian pair of Prannav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar will take on the top seeded and World No. 2 Indonesian pair of Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan in the first round.

In men’s doubles qualification, World No. 52 Indian pair of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy will take on the local pair of Fernando Kurnaiwan and Shing Choi in the first qualification round.

No Indian pair has got the direct entry in the women’s doubles category of the tournament but the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa, who are also the top seeded in the qualification have got bye in the first qualification round.

In mixed doubles category of the tournament, World ranked 37 Indian pair of Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponappa will take on the World no. 8 Indonesian pair of Pravinna Jordan and Vita Marissa in the first round.
