What's the story?

PV Sindhu, at just 23 years old, is an inspiration to several. The most promising hope of India at any international stage match, Sindhu knows her goals very well. With the Asian Games coming up in August in Jakarta and the World Championships knocking on the door, Sindhu relayed that she has her concentration pinned on these two events and hasn't let her thoughts scurry away to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In case you didn't know...

After the success at the recently concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, PV Sindhu has been allowed to rest. Due to this, she isn't participating in the ongoing Uber Cup in Bangkok. This has led to many talented junior players coming up to the fore and getting some much needed international exposure.

The heart of the matter

In Ranchi to inaugurate a badminton and squash facility at the JSCA International Stadium along with her father, PV Ramana and her coach, Pullela Gopichand, Sindhu spoke to the journalists about her immediate future plans.

The ace shuttler arrived in the afternoon with her coach Gopichand and her father. The trio was felicitated at the JSCA International stadium by BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary and Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) president Kuldeep Singh.

On being asked about her dream of playing in the Olympic finals, Sindhu confided, "Though I achieved my dream, I was sad for missing out on gold. I need to work harder and get better."

She added, "There is a lot of time for Olympics. This year has a very hectic schedule and big tournaments such as the Asian Games, World Championships and several super series. The focus is on taking one step at a time."

The 23-year-old silver medalist from Rio Olympics and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Sindhu interacted briefly with budding badminton players before wielding the racquet to exchange rallies with a lucky few in the premises of the freshly inaugurated facility.

What's next?

The World Championships which will commence from the end of July will be the sole focus of Sindhu now. India's hopes are pinned on her to bring home laurels once again. The Rio silver medallist is saving her energy for the later months and we cannot wait to see how much she conquers then.

Author's take

Sindhu is being very wise in deciding to take one big tournament at a time and not let her thoughts run helter-skelter especially towards the Olympics which is still two years away.

If she continues with her spectacular form in the upcoming events, she will be a dangerous threat to the other countries and a beacon of hope for India's success in badminton.
