India vs England in Thomas Cup 2024: Preview, schedule, and where to watch

Following a 4-1 win over Thailand in their opening contest of the 2024 Thomas Cup, the Indian team take on England next, on Monday, April 29.

The Indian team is placed in Group C, alongside powerhouse Indonesia, Thailand, and England. Having beaten Thailand, a win over England would almost secure India's progress to the next stage of the tournament.

The English team endured a 5-0 blanking at the hands of Indonesia in their opening contest. Coming into this tournament as minnows, not much is expected of them. Still, they would look to cause India some worries in their next tie.

India's performance against Thailand was quite satisfactory. Although HS Prannoy lost the opening match of the tie - against World Champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn - the Indian team didn't struggle much afterwards.

The world-beating pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were in form. They defeated their opponents in three games - a slight stretch but not something to lose sleep over.

Lakshya Sen also needed three games to dispatch his unfancied opponent. But then, the last two matches saw the Indian team dominating the Thai players.

MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila won their match in two games and so did Kidambi Srikanth. The latter was especially ruthless, allowing just 14 points in the entire match to his opponent.

England, on the other hand, failed to put up a fight against the Indonesian juggernaut. Four of the five matches in their tie lasted only two games. Only Callum Hemming and Ethan van Leeuwen stretched their opponents in a doubles contest to three games.

So, India go into this contest as the overwhelming favorites. This should be a straightforward win for the defending champions before they face Indonesia.

Lakshya Sen isn't scheduled to play in this tie and Kiran George is listed to play the last singles match. This would be a good opportunity for the youngster to gain some experience.
