The Badminton Association of India has announced that the IPL-style Indian Badminton League will be held in February next year.
The announcement was made by BAI president Akhilesh Das Gupta on the sidelines of the National Badminton Championships, in Srinagar. The tournament will have a prize money of Rs.1 crore, and a formal announcement is expected by the end of the month, once all formalities are completed.
Based on the IPL format, International and national players will be ‘auctioned’ to franchises, and matches will be played in home-and-away format.

The tournament is expected to last upto 3 weeks, and is expected to majorly improve the profile of Badminton in the country.
