Men’s singles category:

It was a mixed day for Indian men at the tournament. K Srikanth defeated Arvind Bhat in a tiring encounter by the score of 19-21, 23-21 and 24-22, but Anand Pawar was ousted by the Malaysian smasher Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin 22-20, 21-11.

Subhankar Dey ended Ajay Jayaram’s opportunity by winning their match 21-19 and 21-17.

Parupalli Kashyap tasted defeat against Zulfadli Zulkiffli from Malaysia by the score of 16-21 and 12-21 while Xue Song defeated Sourabh Varma 21-13, 14-21 and 21-17.

Meanwhile, HS Prannoy, Sai Praneeth and Aditya Prakash also managed to clear their way for the quarterfinals.

Women’s singles category:

Indian sensation Saina Nehwal defeated Russian smasher Natalia Perminova 21-5 and 21-10 while PV Sindhu crushed her Swiss opponent Sabrina Jaquet by the margin of 21-19 and 21-5 to advance to the quarters.

Arundhati Pantawane won her battle against the Thai smasher Natcha Saengchote 21-13, 21-11.

On the other side, Jing Yee Ti from Malaysia defeated Tanvi Lad by the score of 21-15 and 21-17.

Dhanya Nair, Saili Rane, Sayali Gokhale, Santoshi Hasini R were eliminated from the tournament after losing their encounters.

Women’s doubles category:

The duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa registered a victory against the Malaysian pair of Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Fie Cho Soong by the margin of 21-19, 15-21 and 21-19.

However, the pairs of Prajakta Sawant and Arathi Sara Sunil, Jagriti Nashier and Jyoti Nashier, Kristi Das and Juhi Dewangan, Dhanya Nair and Mohita Sahdev, Pooja Antil and Meenu Singh failed to progress to the quarterfinals after facing defeat in their respective matches.

Men’s doubles category:

The pairs of Anilkumar Raju M. and Kamaldeep Singh, Sanjeeth S. and Jagadish Yadav, Guruprasad D. and Venkatesh Prasad, Mayank Behal and Varun Khanwalker were sent packing from the tournament after losing their respective matches.

But there was some good news too, as the pairs of Tarun Kona and Jishnu Sanyal, Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B., Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar advanced to the next round by defeating their opponents.

Mixed doubles category:

Indians had a bad outing on Thursday in the mixed doubles category. Only one Indian pair managed to progress to the quarterfinals – the duo of Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan were given a walkover against the Indonesian opponents.
