The 65th edition of the Yonex Dutch Open will commence from Tuesday, 8th October, 2013 in the Netherlands. This tournament will be organized at the Topsportcentrum Almere, Almere, The Netherlands from Tuesday, 8th October 2013 to Sunday, 13th October 2013.

The tournament will begin with the qualification round which will take place on Tuesday itself. The league stage of the tournament will be witnessed on Wednesday and Thursday i.e. 9th – 10th October, 2013 whereas the execution of the knockout stage will begin from 11th October, 2013.

The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, 12th October 2013 and Sunday, 13th October 2013, has been reserved for the final of this tournament. The Dutch Open badminton tournament is organized by Nederlandse Badminton Bond (NBB).

9 players will be representing India in this edition of Yonex Dutch Open Badminton tournament. These 9 players are – Arvind Bhat, Anand Pawar, Anup Sridhar, Tanvi Lad, Akshay Dewalkar, Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Maneesha K., Sanyogita Ghorpade and Kristi Das.

As far as the history is concerned, only two Indian players have been successful in clinching a title in the long journey of this tournament so far. Way back in 1982, Prakash Padukone secured the men’s singles title whereas Chetan Anand was the last Indian to win a title in the same category. Apart from this, no other Indian player has even managed to secure a place in the finals of the other categories in the tournament.

As far as the nation-wise performance is concerned, India is in 13th position on the list with 2 men’s singles titles whereas Denmark is at the top of the list with a total of 104 titles. The hosts Netherlands are placed 5th with a total of 16 titles so far.

Three players, namely Arvind Bhat, Anand Pawar, and Anup Sridhar will be taking forward the Indian challenge in the men’s singles category of the tournament. Anand Pawar, Arvind Bhat and Anup Sridhar are ranked 37, 88 and 138 respectively in the world rankings.

In the women’s singles category, World No.77 Tanvi Lad is the lone warrior from the Indian side.

In the men’s doubles category, the World No.38 pair of Akshay Dewalkar and Pranav Jerry Chopra will be battling for the Indian side. This will be the only pair representing India in men’s doubles.

The pair of Maneesha K. and Sanyogita Ghorpade being the only pair from the Indian side will be participating in the women’s doubles category of the tournament.

In the mixed doubles category, three pairs including two Indian pairs and one India-Indonesia pair will be the focus for the Indian side.

World No.379 pair of Pranav Jerry Chopra and Maneesha K. is the first Indian pair whereas the second Indian pair is of Akshay Dewalkar and Sanyogita Ghorpade. Kristi Das along with her Indonesian partner Trikusuma Wardhana will be the other Indian to watch out for at the Yonex Dutch Open.

The men’s and women’s singles carry a prize money of $3750 which will be awarded to the winner whereas the runner-up will be awarded with an amount of $1900. On the other side, in the other three categories namely Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles, the winning pair will be awarded with a sum of $3950 and the runner-up pair will be awarded with an amount of $1900.
