Saina Nehwal will face World No.1 Tai Tzu Ying in the final of the $350,000 Indonesia Masters at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Sunday, 28th January, 2018.
Saina faced World No.7 Chen Yufei in the first round of the tournament and she went on to win the tight match 22-24, 21-15, 21-14. Nehwal then faced Chen Xiaoxin in the second round beat her quite easily, winning 21-12, 21-18.
In a match with her fellow compatriot, Nehwal beat Olympic silver-medalist and World No.3 PV Sindhu in straight games 21-13, 21-19 in the quarter-finals. The match lasted a mere 37 minutes as Saina dominated the proceedings.
Then, in the semi-final, the Indian ace faced World No.4 Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. In a match lasted for just 49 minutes, Nehwal eased past Intanon in straight games 21-19, 21-19.
Tai Tzu Ying has enjoyed quite a similar road to the final as she won the first match in three games following it with two consecutive wins in straight games. In the semi-final, she fought back to win the match even after losing the first game to set up a final clash with the 27-year-old Indian.
Saina hasn't beaten the shuttler from Taiwan in their last five matches. Also, in their last meeting, the Indian had lost 15-5, 15-14 in the Premier Badminton League.
The 2012 London Olympics bronze-medalist will be playing in her first final in over a year. She had won the Malaysia Masters last year but after that, she didn't reach any final in 2017.
The ideal preparation for Indian Open would be winning the final and the Indian shuttler will definitely give her best to achieve the same.
