Kidambi Srikanth to drop one spot, Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy set to rise six places

Badminton - Commonwealth Games Day 9
Kidambi Srikanth

The new world rankings, which will be released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on May 17, will have contrasting fortunes for a few of India’s top shuttlers. The India No. 1 men’s singles ace Kidambi Srikanth, who has not been in action since losing in the Asian Championships quarter-finals, will slip out of the top 3 to fourth.

The 25-year-old is also not a part of the Thomas Cup squad, which will be led by HS Prannoy. The Kerala shuttler remains static at the ninth position.

Sameer Verma to rise four spots

2017 Singapore Open Superseries winner B Sai Praneeth will drop one rung to 18th. His run at last week's Australian Open came to an end in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Sameer Verma will hugely benefit from his quarter-final appearance at Sydney. It will push him up by four spots to 21st, making it four Indian men’s singles exponents in the top 21 of the world rankings.

There won’t be any change in the rankings for India’s two shuttle queens. PV Sindhu will continue to reign at the third position while Saina Nehwal will maintain her 10th spot.

Big jump for Attri and Reddy

The other big mover from India will be the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy. They were the best performing Indians in Sydney last week, where they went down in the semi-finals. By dint of that, they will climb a whopping six rungs to 22nd and will now be five places shy of their career-best ranking of 17th.

The former India No. 1 pair has been resurgent for the past two weeks after enduring first round defeats in four consecutive tournaments. At the New Zealand Open, they made it to the quarter-finals, which they improved upon in Australia.

The current India No. 1 duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will, however, slide a couple of spots to 20th in the upcoming rankings.

In mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy will remain unchanged at the 24th position.
