Macau Open Grand Prix Final: PV Sindhu beats Minatsu Mitani, makes it a hat-trick of titles

Sindhu won her 3rd straight Macau Open title

Ace Indian shuttler, PV Sindhu, beat Japan’s Minatsu Mitani 21-9, 21-23, 21-14 to win her third straight Macau Open title. In the first set, the Hyderabadi lass looked as dominant as she was in the semi-final and seemed on course to a fluent win, but Mitani held her own to make it a three-set affair.

The opening set saw Sindhu thoroughly dominant, exhibiting power and accuracy. She coasted to a 21-9 win and the audience were prepared for a short affair, expecting Sindhu to win in straight sets.

Mitani looked much better in the second set, though she never had an absolute lead. The set was evenly contested throughout, and Mitani won the thriller 23-21 to keep her hopes alive.

Just like the semi-final, Sindhu came back strong after seizing the first set and losing the second. The defending champion raced away to a huge lead. On the verge of winning the contest, Mitani saved five match points to go from 9-20 to 14-20, but couldn’t prevent the inevitable. She sent a shot wide and with it, gifted Sindhu the championship.

Final score: PV Sindhu beat Minatsu Mitani 21-9, 21-23, 21-14 to win the Macau Open 2015.
