Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy moved into the second round

The Indian Men’s Doubles pairing of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy, who reached the finals of the US Open last week, progressed through to the second round of the Canada Open after defeating Adrian Liu and Derrick Ng of Canada 21-12 15-21 21-12 in the opening round on Wednesday.

Game 1 saw both pairs go head-on as they reached a deadlock at 4-4 mark, but it was The Indian pair who went in front first, taking a 7-4 lead. Attri and Reddy then built on that lead, winning points at a stretch to put further pressure on their opponents and eventually sealed the game 21-12 in their favour.

The second game started off in similar fashion as the first, but it was the Canadian pair this time, who took the lead and like the Indian pair in the opening game, didn't allow the advantage slip away, eventually winning the game 15-21 and taking the match into the decider.

In the deciding game, it was Attri and Reddy who took the early 2-0 lead and then further built on that lead, by winning 3 points straight at the 4-3 mark to go 7-3 up. They, then, maintained a steady lead over the pair of Adrian and Derrick, constantly putting pressure on them and eventually sealed the game 21-12 to move into the second round.

They will take on the Chinese Taipei pair of Jhe-Huei Lee and Yang Lee in the next round.

Final Scoreline- Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy(IND) beat Adrian Liu/Derrick Ng(CAN) 21-12 15-21 21-12.
