After a quarterfinal finish in the team event, Indian shuttlers got down to singles and doubles action at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships on Wednesday, July 3. The Indian youngsters won all but one of their matches in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in the opening round.
The highlights of the day included the encounters of seeded players Pranay Shettigar and Navya Kanderi, as well as the outing of mixed doubles duo Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla.
Seeded fifth, Shettigar is the highest-ranked Indian in the men's singles draw of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. The 18-year-old got his campaign off to a commanding start as he got the better of Lovic Caceres Javier 21-14, 21-12 in just 31 minutes.
Meanwhile, Navya Kanderi had an equally dominant start to her time at the competition. Seeded seventh in the women's singles, the youngster needed only 24 minutes to dispose of her opponent, Myesha Omer Khan.
In the mixed doubles event at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla put up an impressive performance as they took down Jacinth Paul Ruedas and Althea Princess Hernandez in straight games.
