India's campaign at the 2024 individual Badminton Asia Junior Championships has come to an abrupt close in the Round of 16. This comes after the nation ended their team outing in the quarterfinals against Malaysia last week.
While Indian junior shuttlers were all shown the door today, none of them went down without a fight, especially in the men's singles category. Today at Yogyakarta there were three shuttlers from the country in action in the event, and all of them pushed their matches to the full distance.
Dhruv Negi was the first of the trio to take the court, and he took a game off eighth seed Moh. Zakir Ubaidillah, before losing 15-21, 21-16, 21-14. Elsewhere, both Pranauv Ram Nagalinga and Pranay Shettigar had strong starts to their matches.
Nagalinga eventually fell to Thai second seed Patcharakit Apiratchataset 21-18, 18-21, 22-20, while Shettigar lost out to a lower ranked Yoon Ho Seong 21-13, 9-21, 21-15.
Meanwhile, the women's singles event at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships saw Tanvi Sharma fall prey to the top seed Sarunrak Vitidsarn. Sharma went into the match as the underdog, and despite a brave showing in the second game she lost 12-21, 19-21.
