India stumbled a bit in the singles and doubles events of the ongoing Badminton Asia Junior Championships on Thursday, July 4. Over 13 shuttlers from the country were in action but only seven registered victories.

One of the day's biggest upsets was when women's singles star and seventh seed Navya Kanderi lost to Niina Matsuta. Kanderi is ranked 15th in the BWF World Junior Rankings, while Matsuta is the World Junior No. 131. The Indian suffered a 14-21, 6-21 loss against her Japanese counterpart.

Her compatriot Tanvi Sharma moved past China's Xu Teng Ti in straight games, while Adarshini Shri Boopathi Balaji suffered a loss to Malaysian top seed Siti Zulaikha.

In the men's singles event of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, Pranay Shettigar narrowly escaped a loss. The Indian fifth seed and World Junior No. 6 was up against the unseeded World Junior No. 89, Indonesia's Bismo Raya Oktora, and was pushed to the full distance before disposing of his opponent.
