After an electric week in Thailand, badminton action and the BWF World Tour have now moved onto Kuala Lumpur with the Malaysia Masters. For India, the opening rounds of matches on the home ground of badminton legend Lee Chong Wei resulted in some disappointing results, with only Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand surviving the opening day.
For the Indian shuttlers, the matches at the Malaysia Masters began with the men's and women's singles qualification rounds. Tanya Hemant was the only one taking the court for the latter, losing her first match 23-21, 21-8 to Lin Sih Yun.
Meanwhile, in the men's singles qualification rounds, both Ayush Shetty and Sathish Karunakaran survived their opening-round encounters to make it to the qualification quarter-finals.
Eventually, Shetty went down to Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul of Thailand, while Karunakaran failed to scale the challenge of Indonesian Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, who had earlier in the day beaten Indian Sankar Muthusamy.

In the main-draw rounds of the Malaysia Masters, Indian shuttlers were only in action in the women's doubles category. While four pairs took the court, Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand were the only ones who could notch a win, beating Chinese Taipei's Huang Yu-Hsun and Liang Ting Yu 21-14, 21-10.
