The second day of action at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships saw the young shuttlers of India clash swords with the Philippines. After overwhelming Vietnam on Day 1, the nation's players claimed yet another dominant victory today.
In a repeat of yesterday’s line-up, Tanvi Sharma was the one taking to court for today's women's singles. Like she did yesterday with Vietnam's Tran Thi Anh, Sharma needed only two games and thirty minutes to show Fuentespina Christel Rei the door today.
Up next, Rounak Chauhan was in action for his first match of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. The youngster fought a lengthy battle with Jamal Rahmat Pandi, but fell short 21-15, 18-21, 12-21, in a game that lasted nearly an hour. This marked India's first loss at the competition.
Making up for Chauhan's slip-up, his teammates were quick to reclaim the lead in the tie. The women's doubles pair of Vennala Kalagotla and Shravani Walekar beat Hernandez Andrea Princess and Precious Dianne Libaton in straight games, and the men's doubles duo of Arsh Mohammad and Sanskar Saraswat repeated the feat when they got the better of Christian Dorega/John Vincent Lanuza.
India's only other loss at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships came when Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla failed to get past Jamal Rahmat Pandi and Mary Destiny Untal.
With this the country is second in the rankings for Group C, behind Indonesia who have lost only one match so far. India has also successfully secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
