The Syed Modi International’s quarterfinals brought with it some exciting matches. As shuttlers fought for a berth in the semifinals, fans were kept on the edge of their seats by some extraordinary action.
India's two big stars in the event, Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu, were able to make it through to the final four without much difficulty. Sen has been the picture of dominance in Lucknow and it was the same story today as he downed compatriot Meiraba Maisnam in straight games.
On the other hand, Sindhu struggled in her round of 16 match yesterday but was back in form today, outdoing her Chinese opponent Dai Wang 21-15, 21-17. Up next, the two-time Olympic medalist will take on rising star Unnati Hooda in the semifinals tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen will face Japan's Shogo Ogawa while Priyanshu Rajawat takes on Jason Teh of Singapore in the second men's singles semifinals.
In the doubles matches of the day at the Syed Modi International, the mixed-doubles duo of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila avenged the loss of compatriots Sumeeth and Sikki Reddy, as they beat Loo Bing Kun and Ho Lo Ee in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, the men's doubles duo of Ishan Bhatnagar and Sankar Udayakumar upset third seeds Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai while Pruthvi Roy and Sai Pratheek beat the higher-ranked Lim Tze Jian and Wong Tien C.
The women's doubles saw the pairs of Ashwini Ponappa/Tanisha Crasto and Treesa Jolly/Gayathri Gopichand move into the semifinals.
