Defending champion and second seed P. V. Sindhu made it to the final of the women’s singles of the $120,000 Macau Open Badminton being played at the Macau Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in Hong Kong. Sindhu defeated eighth seed Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand 21-14, 21-15 in 42 minutes.

Sindhu and Busanan have been competing with each other since junior days and have played each other on five occasions. Busanan was on fire as she won three straight points. Sindhu struck back, but the Thai girl won four points on the trot again. Sindhu leveled things at 7-all. Sindhu upped the ante to take a 11-9 lead by the break. Back from the break there was no stopping Sindhu.

Busanan started to falter and Sindhu did not let her come back into the game as she produced a brilliant six point run to wrap up the game .

Second game went on similar lines. Busanan managed to crawl herself back each time Sindhu took lead. But Sindhu remained in lead throughout the second game. At 12-all Sindhu produced another brilliant 6-point run and it became clear that Sindhu was in no mood for a third game. However, Busanan managed to reduce the lead to 15-18. But that’s all she could manage as Sindhu ran home by winning three points in a row.

This was Sindhu’s fifth career encounter with Busanan and she leads her opponent 5-0.
