Saina Nehwal will look to build on a promising start to her season

It was yet another disappointing day for India at the 2016 Badminton Asia Championships, barring the performance of Saina Nehwal who made it through to the quarterfinals of the competition after beating Nitchaon Jindapol in the second round.

The 26-year-old, who has entered the semifinals in her last three competitions, has looked good at this event so far, failing to drop a game so far and has looked convincing in her both her encounters.

However, on Friday afternoon, she will be up against an opponent who in the last 12 months has defeated her a few times. Wang Shixian of China is presently ranked three places above Saina in the rankings and will present a good test to her opponent.

In recent times, it has been the Chinese who has the edge over her Indian opponent, having won 3 out of the last 5 meetings, including two victories at the Australian and Indonesian Super Series events.

But Friday will be a new day and Saina will be hoping to further build on a promising, if not a brilliant season that she has had so far and look to win her 1st match against Shixian since December 2014.
