PV Sindhu vs Laura Sarosi: Rio Olympics 2016, Badminton: Preview, TV details & Timings

PV Sindhu
Sindhu is the first Indian women’s singles player to win a medal at the World Championships

Things haven’t panned out the way they were expected to go in the first week of the Olympics for the Indian contingent. Saina Nehwal continues to be one of India’s biggest hopes for a medal, but she will be joined by PV Sindhu, this being the first time that two Indian women have qualified for the singles round.

SIndhu kicks off her campaign against Laura Sarosi, the 23-year old shuttler from Hungary. Sarosi came into the limelight recently for her noble gesture of giving her spare shoes to her opponent Karin Schnaase, after the latter’s shoes broke midway through their European Championships game.

Sindhu’s primary concern lies in her inconsistency. She has managed to defeat higher ranked players, but also has a tendency to lose track against lower-ranked players.

Her last tournament was the Australian Open in June, when she was eliminated in the first round, losing to Kim Hyo Min of South Korea.

This being her maiden Olympics, there will surely be some first-time jitters. However, if she can overcome those and get off to a winning start, it will give her a whole lot of confidence going into further rounds.
