Saina Nehwal invests in a healthcare company

Saina Nehwal has become a minority shareholder in Soothe Healthcare firm

Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal has helped an affordable brand of sanitary napkins, Paree, by investing an undisclosed amount of capital, EconomicTimes reports. The napkins are manufactured by a Noida-based company, Soothe Healthcare.

The 25-year old talked with ET about the investment and why she supports the brand Paree.

"Being a girl and having played for so many years, I've come through many difficult situations. I totally believe in Paree and would like to support them as it is an important product for girls whether they go to school or play sports," she said. "More than investment, it is about supporting the cause. I will be happy to support more causes," she added.

The Hyderabad-based shuttler has been the brand ambassador of Paree since 2014. Saina became a minority stakeholder in Soothe after the healthcare firm raised revenue from company's advisor and former president of Reliance Infrastructure, Anil Gupta, last month.

Sahil Dharia, managing director of Soothe, revealed the company’s plans of raising Rs 5 crore before the firm is taken into the market for series-A funding. The company is also planning to release a tv commercial by next year in order to make the brand a domiciliary name.

"Our vision is to make Paree a household brand and, therefore, we are looking at picking up strategic investors where they bring in more than just money to the table," Dharia said.

"Saina is a role model for many girls in the country and we plan to sponsor girls' sports teams from schools at state and national level tournaments," he added.

The second-ranked shuttler who will also play a significant part in Make In India, Girl Child, and Swachh Bharat initiatives said in a statement on Zee News,

“A sanitary pad is a high social impact product and Paree combines quality and affordability, thereby revolutionizing the personal hygiene segment in women's personal care in India. Paree has the potential of reaching every household in India and this is what sets the brand apart. It is about time that we recognize the heroes of the manufacturing industry contributing significantly to the Make in India campaign and to the society at large”.
