Sudirman Cup: China through to the semis
Details about the quarterfinal clash between China and Germany.
1.Mixed Doubles: Zhang Nan/ Zhao Yunlei vs Michael Fuchs/Birgit Michels
The Mixed Doubles match proved to be no contest, particularly after the Chinese took the lead 5 minutes into the match. The pair of Zhang and Zhao never let the German enter into the game at any point and raced to 21-9 opening game win.
The second game proved to be no different as the Chinese pair showed no mercy on their German opponents and clinched the second game 21-11 to give their side a 1-0 lead in the quarter-final
Final Scoreline: Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei beat Michael Fuchs/ Birgit Michels 21-9 21-11
2.Men’s Singles: Lin Dan vs Marc Zwiebler
The first game proved to be a close affair as both players went toe-to-toe, but it was the Chinese, who was the first to reach 11, even through Zwiebler wasn't far behind at 9. But the break proved to be a slight hindrance for the German as he couldn't quite sustain the momentum despite putting in a spirited show and eventually lost the first game by a fair margin 21-12.
Lin Dan took an early lead in the second game, but Zwiebler pulled it back to make it 4-4 and even got into the lead at one point, only to squander it moments later, but he continued to give the reigning Olympic Champion a good fight and was one just one point behind at the interval mark.
However, as was the case with the first game, the momentum just slipped a touch for Zwiebler on the other side of the interval and the World No.2 took full advantage of that to take the game and the match and make it 2-0 for the defending champions.
Final Scoreline: Lin Dan beat Marc Zwiebler 21-12 21-15
3.Men’s Doubles: Zhang Nan/ Fu Haifeng vs Michael Fuchs/ Peter Käsbauer
If the Germans harboured any hopes of progressing to the quarters, then they had to win the Men’s doubles clash. However, it wasn't the best of starts for the Germans as the Chinese pair first raced to an 11-5 lead at the break before closing out the opening game 21-15 in their favour.
The second game proved to be a riveting affair as both teams went toe-to-toe but when it came down to holding the nerve it was the Chinese pair who prevailed once again, clinching the game and the match to take an unassailable lead in the rubber.
Final Scoreline: Zhang Nan/ Fu Haifeng beat Michael Fuchs/ Peter Käsbauer 21-15 21-17
