Sun Yu lets out a triumphant cry after winning the Singapore Open on Sunday

Sun Yu of China won her maiden OUE Singapore Open title on Sunday after defeating Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying 13-21 21-19 20-22 in the final at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Playing her first-ever final on the Super Series circuit, the 21-year-old, ranked 11th in the world, took just over an hour to seal the win against her opponent, who was ranked 5 places higher than her.

Not only is this Sun’s first win in Singapore, but it is also her maiden triumph at a Badminton World Federation(BWF) Super Series event.

Speaking after her victory, Sun said that she played a lot more determined game and took full advantage of the defensive weaknesses of her opponents.

“I played a more determined game and her (Tai) defence was not as good,” she said at the victory ceremony.

Here are the highlights from the game.
