Both the Indian men's and women's will have their task cut out at the Thomas and Uber Cup to be held in Bangkok from 20-27 May. Not only have they been grouped alongside formidable opponents but they will also head into the tournament with a depleted squad as the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided to rest some of the star shuttlers.

It has been learnt by Sportskeeda that PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth are the ones who have been rested ahead of the World Championships and the Asian Games. We will have to wait and see if there are more surprises in the squad.

The women’s team has been drawn in Group A of the Uber Cup alongside five-time winners Japan, Canada and Australia. In Thomas Cup, the Indian men will be accompanied by nine-time champions China, France and Australia in Group A.

As reported earlier, Sindhu had suffered a slight ankle injury just before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She did not play a single match in the team event and in the individual event, as well, she did not look at her 100%. The 22-year-old shuttler went on to lose to compatriot Saina Nehwal in the final and had to settle for silver.

At the recently concluded Badminton Asia Championships, Sindhu could not make it past the quarterfinals as she lost to South Korean star Sung Ji Hyun.

Srikanth, as well, had his own share of injury problems last year. He made a comeback at the India Open in February. Since then, he has steadily made progress. The 25-year-old returned with a gold and a silver medal from Gold Coast. However, in Wuhan, at the Badminton Asia Championships, he lost to Lee Chong Wei in the quarters.

A couple of days back, Srikanth had said that he might skip a few tournaments as his priority is to focus on winning medals at the World Championships and the Asian Games.
