Yonex Dutch Open: Arvind Bhat progresses to 3rd round

Indian smasher Arvind Bhat defeated Hsu Jui Ting from Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, 9th October, to advance to the 3rd round of the men’s singles category in the Yonex Dutch Open 2013 in Almere, The Netherlands.

In this 1 hour 1 minute duration match, the first game proved to be a neck-to-neck fight between the two as the game went for a deuce situation but unfortunately, the Arvind Bhat lost the game 22-24.

The World No.88 Bhat came back in the match strongly and won the second game comfortably by 21-13.

In the last and decisive game of the match, another tough fight was witnessed between the two but ultimately, it was the 15th seed former national champion Arvind Bhat from India who held his nerves in the extreme situations and clinched the final game by 21-19 to register a victory over Hsu Jui Ting of Chinese Taipei.

Arvind Bhat was supposed to take on a qualifier in his opening round, but the clash did not take place and Bhat played Hsu Jui Ting of Chinese Taipei in the 2nd round.

On the other side, in the women’s singles category, world No.77 Tanvi Lad lost against the seventh seeded Czech Republic smasher Kristina Gavnholt in a 31-minute clash on Tuesday.

The Indian lost the first game of the match with a significant margin by 13-21. Tanvi Lad was unable to resist the Czech attack in the second game too, and lost the game 14-21 to end the match with a defeat. World No.77 Tanvi Lad was the lone participant from the Indian side in the women’s singles category of this tournament.

In the mixed doubles category, Indian pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Maneesha K, with world ranking 379, lost against the Indonesian mixed doubles pair of Irfan Fadhilah and Weni Anggraini in a 27-minute duration match and crashed out of the first round of the tournament.

The Indian pair fought well in the first game of the match but lost the game 16-21 against the agile Indonesian attack. The Indonesian pair dominated in the second game of the match too, and won the game 21-14 to eliminate the Indian pair in the first round of the tournament.

On Thursday, Indian smasher Arvind Bhat will take on Gabriel Ulldahl of Sweden in the 3rd round of men’s singles category. In the men’s doubles category, the Indian pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar (World no. 38) will face the Indonesian pair of Berry Angriawan and Ricky Karanda Suwardi.
