28th September, 2013: A big day for boxing bouts

The much awaited clash between Adonis Stevenson and Tavoris Cloud is scheduled on 28th September, 2013. Stevenson conquered this title from Chad Dawson in Montreal on 8th June 2013. Prior to this achievement, Stevenson attempted to procure title in the Super Middleweight category, but he failed.

Following this defeat, he shifted to light heavyweight category to face Chad Dawson, in which he succeeded to register a much awaited win. On the other side, Tavoris Cloud will be looking forward for a comeback after being defeated from Bernard Hopkins. In the fight that took place in March 2013, he lost his International Boxing Federation (IBF) title and it was his first loss too. On 28th September, he will have a chance to regain his confidence back.

The same day will witness another bout in which Scott Quigg, the world champion, will take on Yondaris Salinas at the Manchester arena in United Kingdom. This fight will have 12 rounds. This clash will be a real fight as both have faced ordinary fighters throughout their life. Salinas has been in this business from amateur level and has won a good number of fights since then.

On the same note, it is worth noticing that since 2009, he has only faced a single good opponent, Nehomar Cermenom in 2011. Guillermo Rigondeaux is the world champion of WBA and holds the World Super Bantamweight title. This fact will restrain the match winner to only a paper champion status.

WBA honours multiple titles to the players in different categories and it makes it complicated for the boxing lovers to understand and perceive the status of ranking. This is the reason that even after defeating Salinas, Quigg will be a milestone away from the other champion of super bantamweight.

On 28th September,2013 itself, Miguel Vazquez, IBF Lightweight champion will take on Ameth Diaz to defend his IBF title for the 6th time in Baja California, Mexico. Vazquez defeated Mercito Gesta by an agreed decision in December 2013. It is been a good time since that performance in which he dominated and clinched a comfortable victory. Following that, Vazquez wasn’t able to fight with Burns because of illness. Otherwise it would have been a great inspiring boost for him for the matches to come.

Vazquez has a credit of winning against Diaz in January 2012, which makes him more confident to return by expecting a dominating win. This also makes it a debatable issue of International Boxing Federations’ decision to schedule this match with same opponents. IBL has a typical setup to decide their rankings.

This is well evident from a comparatively high ranking Diaz claims even after his scoring nearly a dozen of defeats. Juan Mosquera, Ji-Hoon Kim, Takehiro Shimada, and Souleymane M’baye are some of the players who knocked out Diaz in recent times. In spite of these losses his holding rank 1 position is a matter to ponder upon.

Bryan Vasquez will charge on Rene Gonzalez for vacant WBA interim junior lightweight title At San Jose, Costa Rica. Bryan, the 26 year old Costa Rican boxer, has a latest achievement of defeating Jorge Lacierva to win a match against Takashi Uchiyama in July 2012. The match is scheduled on 28th September, 2013.
