Assam Boxing Association organises the 6th National Youth Women's Boxing Championships

The 6th National Youth Women’s Boxing Championships is in progress at Nehru Indoor Stadium, Guwahati from 21 – 25 July 2010 and is being organised by Assam Boxing Association. Women pugilists born in 1992 & 1993 are eligible to take part and hence a total of 114 boxers representing 22 States are participating in this prestigious event.

After the completion of the preliminaries on 21 & 22 and quarterfinal bouts on 23 July 2010, Assam and Manipur with 11 pts each are at the top closely followed by Punjab with 11 pts. Assam has qualified 5 boxers into the semifinals slated for 24 July 2010 while Manipur and Punjab have 6 boxers each. Other States like Haryana, Kerala, MP etc have less than 3 boxers in the Semifinal lineup. The performances of a few boxers such as Minu Basumatary of Assam and Monika Soun of Punjab have been outstanding in this Championship so far. They will in the near future certainly don National Colors in the Senior Section too.

Indian Boxing Federation is specially indebted to Mittal Champions Trust for having come forward to sponsor cash prizes for the women boxers. All winners in preliminaries will be given Rs 500/ for every bout won while the winners in quarterfinals will be given Rs 1000/ , winners in Semifinals will get Rs 2000/ and winners of Finals will get Rs 3000/.

Sponsors such as Mittal Champions Trust and especially their CEO Mrs Manisha Malhotra are a boon for sports such as Boxing due to their extremely positive attitude in coming forward and supporting Boxing National Championships especially in the Women’s Category. The Women boxers have an excellent chance of getting medals at Asian Games and Olympic Games due to their outstanding performances so far.
