Asian Games Silver medallist Dinesh Kumar has been ruled out of the upcoming Commonwealth Games after sustaining injuries in a road accident near Patiala.
The accident occurred on Sunday when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with a truck near Samana. The boxer was later admitted to a private hospital in Patiala.
Kumar has sustained two fractures in his right arm besides other injuries.
Asked about the mishap, which has left the boxer injured, Indian team's coach G S Sandhu told PTI "the news has come as a big shock to us. We hope that he gets well soon".
Asked if Kumar's participation in forthcoming events was uncertain now, Sandhu said that at this point of time he cannot say anything.
"It is for the doctors to take a call. We know that time is less (for his recovery on time)," he said.
Kumar was to take part in the 91kg category.
