Five Indian Boxers enter semifinals of Asian Olympic qualifiers

A total of five Indian Boxers makes it to the semifinals of London Olympics Qualifying event. 18-year old teen Indian sensation, Shiva Thapa stunned Olympics Silver Medalist -Worapoj Petchkoom 16—10 to make it to the semifinals of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana (Kazakhstan) on Monday. He is now just one win away to make it to London Games.

But for him to secure an Olympic qualification, he would either have to make it to the final or wait for final’s result. Only three Olympic quota places are on offer in the 56 kg category. Two finalists and the semi-finalist, who loses to the eventual gold winner, will qualify for the Olympics. Shiva will now face Japan’s Satoshi Simizu in the semifinals.

Other than Shiva, Vijender Singh (75kg), Sumit Sangwan (81 kg), Manpreet Singh (91 kg) and Paramjeet Samota (+91kg) will also take to the rings in the semifinals on Wednesday. Vijender Singh (75kg) have already qualified for the London Games

Vijender Singh (75kg) will take on Nursahat Pazziyev of Turkmenistan in semifinals. Sumit Sangwan will face off against the Ihab Almatdault of Jordan. Only three Olympic quota places are on offer in the 81 kg as well.

In 91 kg, Manpreet Singh will meet former Asian Champion Ali Mazaheri of Iran. Manpreet will also have to go all the way and win finals of the heavy weight division for the only Olympic qualification spot on offer.

Paramjeet Samota (+91kg) would have to claim the title to qualify for the mega event.
