Floyd Mayweather KO's Ortiz in an unsavory fashion

Right before the Apollo Creed-Ivan Drago fight, Apollo told the Siberian Express…”Come on get yo hands up man, what do you need an interpreter, it’s time to go to school.” Apollo’s pre-fight shit talking was only about touching gloves during instructions. Get your hands up. Keep your hands up. It’s basic boxing 101, and Victoria Ortiz failed to do the most simplistic aspect of the sport after he gave a pussy headbutt to Mayweather in the 4th round. For the record, I had no problem with Mayweather caving Ortiz’s face in. It’s legal, so why not? It’s boxing, keep your fucking hands up.

Before the controversial finish, Floyd Mayweather landed 73 punches to Victor Ortiz's 26.

The fight was long over before Floyd landed the shots that will leave Ortiz scarred for the rest of his career. He was dominating the younger fighter in front of 14,687 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. When Mike Tyson started gnawing on Evander Holyfield’s ear, he was basically admitting that he couldn’t beat him in a straight up boxing match. I know this because I was miserable watching Tyson throw away his career in their ’97 bout. It was if to say, I know I can’t beat you, so I’m going to eat you.

Victoria Ortiz giving Floyd a headbutt was him trying to stun the new WBC Welterweight champ (42-0, 26 KO’s) and then capitalize with a knockout shot. It’s not uncommon, but it’s virtually impossible to get away with on Floyd. Refs like Joe Cortez baby Floyd are like the crooked NBA assholes protect LeBron James. He was admitting defeat, and for that, I don’t feel bad that he got drilled by the two vicious shots. Remember, this is the same guy who once quit in a fight. Did it matter that he shot up to 164 pounds before the fight? Of course not. If it’s possible to lose respect for someone that you had zero respect for in the first place, please tell me.

But that’s not why I called. For me, all that came out of this fight was what Floyd had to say after it. I know, he seemingly rambled on and on for what felt like eternity, but there was one thing that the spectacular fighter said that stood out.

After Ortiz's headbutt, Floyd caught him with two devastating shots to the head. Only Joe Cortez knows why he wasn't looking when the fight was re-started.

It was that he would give Ortiz a rematch. That’s all that stuck to my brain. You know what that means, right? Floyd has no ambition, no desire and no plans for a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Are we really surprised? He feels like he doesn’t need the validation that would come from beating the other pound for pound king. I’ve long criticized Money for ducking Pac-Man (yes, he blocked me on Twitter), but it’s nauseating to waste energy hoping for the super fight. Floyd will take a rematch with Victoria (or fight another hand picked stiff) to further build his legacy, and ensure that he retires with that 0 in his loss column. It’s sad, but what else would you expect from this sport? Saturday night’s bizarre fight was typical of the silliness that boxing has become. I was convinced for about 27 minutes after the fight that Don King promoted this shit show.

Floyd delivered a show like he promised, but it was his words after that will last longer in die hards minds. He doesn’t think he needs to fight Pacquiao. He’s good with his legacy the way that it is. As a lifelong fight fan, this sucks all kinds of balls.

Here is the clip of the end of the fight in case you missed it…

Remember kids, always keep your hands up. It’s the basic premise of the sport that Ortiz claims to love. Now he’ll be reminded of it when he’s eating soup 3 times a day for the next two months.
