India’s Olympic bronze medal winning boxer MC Mary Kom launched her much-awaited autobiography, ‘Unbreakable’ at a glittering function at the Forum Mall in Bangalore. The book has been published by Harper Collins and documents Mary’s struggles through her life and how her unflinching passion for boxing helped her overcome all of them.

“My story is the same as that of thousands of women in this country. The reason I decided to pen down my life’s battles is so that I could inspire and motivate others to never loose hope and fight for their dreams,” said Mary, who then went over to the Landmark store to sign a few copies. Also present at the launch were playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy and her husband, violinist L. Subramaniam.

The book covers a whole host of phases in the boxer’s life right from her childhood with her parents who were agricultural labourers holding no lands themselves and then to her marital life and husband. It also talks about her continuous efforts that have helped her hold her own in a largely male-dominated bastion that is boxing in India.

“Being part of a labour family actually prepared my body for the sport. Every moment in my life has played a part in making me who I am today.”, added Mary.

While there may be no plans to write further books in the immediate future, Mary did admit that writing her autobiography had a therapeutic effect on her.

“Writing this book was more difficult than winning the bronze medal at the Olympics for sure. Boxing comes naturally to me while writing was a new, much more emotional experience. I usually wrote at home when I had free time. My family, especially my sister helped me recount some of my early life experiences,” said Mary.

Mary had earlier on Monday, had a launch function in Mumbai for the book, which had Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan as the guest of honour, who launched the book.
