M.C. Mary Kom

Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medal winner in boxing, M.C. Mary Kom, on Wednesday was felicitated by My Home India (MHI), a Mumbai-based NGO, as per reports from the Assam Tribune.

Mary Kom was presented with the ONE India Award by MHI during a small function held at the Rang Sharda Auditorium in Mumbai.

Mary Kom was clearly overwhelmed by the gesture and in an emotional request to the assembled crowd, asked them to pray for her during her preparation and the various tournaments that she took part in.

The audience soon started chanting “gold” expressing their desire for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, to which Mary Kom replied by assuring that she would give her best.

The ONE India award is an acronym for Our North-East and is given out to personalities from the region who have in some way played their part in contributing to the country’s development, integrity and glory.

Mary Kom became the fourth person to receive the award.
