Mary Kom Still Waits for NOC to Represent Jharkhand in the National Games

Uncertainty still looms large over Mary Kom’s desire to represent Jharkhand in the 34th National Games as the Manipur Police Department is yet to give her the No Objection Certificate.

The five times world boxing champion along with her Coach met the DGP today but could not finalized anything. “Yes I met the DGP today but could not finalized anything. However the DGP told me that he will try to give the NOC, but with just a day to go, I am not very sure whether it will be possible” said the Mother of twins.

Her chance of participating in the National Games is bleak owing to the fact that she had applied the NOC on February 3 which still should not be pending, had the concern authority were willing to let her represent Jharkhand. Moreover, time is running out with just one day remaining for the mega event to begin.

Speaking over phone from Pune, Magnificent Mary said with disappointment, “I think I won’t be able to participate in the National Games this time as I am yet to get the NOC from the chief of Manipur police. I don’t why they are taking so long to give me the NOC.”

While the Boxing Federation of India has already given green signal to Mary Kom regarding her wish to play for Jharkhand, the All India Police Control Board has recommended her to seek NOC from her employer ”Manipur police”.

“Nothing is in my hand as I am working under the Department and it’s their call. If they give me the NOC, I will take the first flight to Ranchi”.

Mary Kom is not being able to represent her home state Manipur, as L.Sarita Devi, who also fights in the 51KG category automatically qualifies for the slot, after winning the National Boxing Championship held just after the Asian Games, which Mary Kom skipped.
