The iconic Muhammad Ali

One thing is for sure in boxing, excitement draws the fans and puts money in fighter’s pockets!!! The casual fan will go to any length to watch slugfests, bloodbaths and all the other high-octane action which you can possibly find inside the boxing ring. Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez, George Foreman and many more were adored by the fans for bringing the ”all out war” mentality when they stepped up to fight. The current generation is not short of exciting fighters and from time to time have given fights which have left the crowd in amazement. Here we look at the most exciting fighters there are in boxing today.

5.Ruslan Provodnikov :

The Siberian Rocky

The “Siberian Rocky” is literally inhuman!!!! The kind of action he brings inside the ring is death defying. Provodnikov is an all out brawler and with his all-action approach he has earned a “beast” reputation. Provodnikov has been involved in wars all his career with matches seeing blood ,sweat and what not!!! His fight with Tim Bradley in 2013 was awarded the fight of the year by Ring Magazine and his fight with Lucas Matthyse which concluded recently is a leading candidate for this year’s fight of the year award. Provodnkov gives and takes an extreme amount of punishment and some observers have called for an early retirement to his career. Provodnikov has a huge fan base in his country Russia as well as in the United States, fans like his style of fighting and the excitement he brings along with it.

4.Vasyl Lomachenko :

Boxing’s next big thing?

One of the greatest amateur boxers ever Vasyl Lomachenko is just five fights into his pro-boxing career and already is being touted as the next big thing in professional boxing. The current WBO Featherweight champion is one of the most versatile there is in boxing today with basic jabs accompanied with counter rights and left delivered at the speed of light.

He is a master at controlling distance and has power in both his hands as was evident from his victory over Gamalier Rodriguez last week. This well-rounded approach to the game makes him highly pleasing to the audience thereby helping him in getting bigger fights and continue his journey up the pound for pound ladder.

3.Roman Gonzalez :

Roman Gonzalez in action

A 43-0 fighter with 37 knockouts in his resume will without a doubt make it into any “most exciting boxer” list!!! The former straw weight, light flyweight and the current flyweight champion is rewriting records each time he gets into the ring and in his last match over Edgar Sosa he extended his title defence streak further.

An aggressive fighter who lands accurate punches and has good knock out power, Gonzalez’s skill set is complete and fine tuned in such a way that the opponent feels it and the fans love it. Gonzalez is highly underrated due to lack of fan following for boxing’s lower weight divisions but his recent antics inside the ring has compelled more people to take notice of this fighter who is undoubtedly one of the best there is today.

2.Sergey Kovalev :

The Krusher

The “Krusher” is considered as one of the best there is at the moment!!! A prominent name in the pound for pound rankings he has given fans high volume excitement with his blistering knockouts and in-ring antics. Kovalev the Ring Magazine’s 2014 fighter of the year has almost cleaned up the Light Heavyweight division, beaten up legends and top fighters in brutal fashion with victories over veteran Bernard Hopkins and the rugged Jean Pascal being evidence of it.

Kovalev blessed with great footwork has an excellent jab which is among the best at the moment but his main asset is his straight right which shoots like a cannon and puts fighters out cold. His knock out power is evident in his perfect 27-0 record where 24 of them have come by way of it. A unification bout with Adonis Stevenson is looming large and promises to bring excitement to fans who are all waiting to see “Krusher” back in action.

1.Gennady Golovkin :

GGG

The most avoided boxer in the industry, “GGG” is steam rolling through everyone who gets in his way with his last match against Willie Monroe Jr. ending in a brutal knock out. Golovkin’s matches don’t last very long, only once has he been past the tenth round in his entire career and with 30 knockouts in 33 matches we can only assume his popularity and fan base.

Golovkin is excellent at cornering the opponent by cutting the ring and coupled with his excellent jab and vicious knock out ability he is quite terrifying!!! Golovkin is planning to fight bigger names in the near future and if he keeps doing what he is doing now one can only assume what his place in boxing history will be.
