Mumbai Fighters take on bruised-and-battered LA Matadors

With a comfortable 2-0 lead at the ongoing World Series Boxing (WSB), home team Mumbai Fighters will take on Los Angeles Matadors on Friday in their fourth round bout at Inorbit Mall, Malad.

LA Matadors go into the ring without their best bet Fernando Martinezand, who was replaced by bantamweight pugilist Joet Gonzalez in the last minute. However, since the substitute boxer’s name is not registered yet, the visiting team could be reduced to four instead of five ahead of their big fight tonight.

As a result, Fighters’ Marko Calic will get a walkover in his light heavyweight bout as Levan Guledani, who was supposed to represent the Matadors, couldn’t make the trip because he couldn’t procure visa in time.

Gonzalez will take on Jitender Kumar but irrespective of the result, the bout might be awarded to Fighters as Gonzalez’s inclusion will be counted as infringement of registration guidelines.

The WSB has set two dates for registering their boxers — November 4 and December 20. Martinez broke his wrist during training after November 4, Gonzalez cannot be registered before December 20.

Only three rounds into the season, the Fighters’ have put up a remarkable show and will hope to keep their momentum up. After getting a walkover from Bangkok Elephants in their last round, the Fighters will be looking forward to win it in the ring, and what better place to do it than home.
