Price is right in Liverpool

Just how much power does David Price have in his right hand? I’m not sure even he knows. The undefeated Olympic medalist made swift work of John Mcdermott last night taking just 73 seconds to end the fight.

Many pundits claimed that the big Scot would provide the first big test of Price’s career but he was outclassed and outgunned by the big man. In hindsight we haven’t learned much about Price apart from the fact he has one of the best pound for pound punchers in the game. The uppercut that nailed Mcdermott first up was world class and could have floored almost anyone on the domestic scene. And lets not forget Price’s knockout of Dallas last year who crumbled to the floor as if he had been run over by a bulldozer.

The question on all British boxing fans minds now though is when Price will have his mandatory title fight against the other heavyweight golden prospect, Tyson Fury.

Both are tall, rangy fighters who box behind a good jab and have very good right hands to back it up. Price still has a lot to learn as evidence by the overhand right that caught him as he threw the winning punch and his two marquee fights with Dallas and Mcdermott were other two quickly to actually find out anything of his supposed weaknesses.

Fury has fought Chisora and made him look ordinary but looks a bit ungainly and doesn’t look as well drilled as Price. At times, going to war when his trainers plead with him to box behind his jab will cost him against more technically skilled boxers. Fury seems like a man who is willing to fight anyone but will the promoters let him. Both are with Frank Maloney so getting the fight organised will be no problem, getting the balls to do it is another matter.
