The former Gamecocks guard was also anticipated to host events in South Carolina; however, she transferred to SEC rival LSU Tigers this offseason.

Dawn Staley on MiLaysia Fulwiley's decision to exit South Carolina

After more than a month of absence, Dawn Staley publicly addressed MiLaysia Fulwiley's exit from the Gamecocks program during a promotional event for her new book.

"Surprising? No. I think being in this space, you become to expect the unexpected," she said. "I still have much love for MiLaysia, much love. I want her happy."

Staley further shared that Fulwiley met with her in her office and shared her plans to transfer before announcing it to the NCAA.

"Just be happy. I told her, 'Don't look back, I know it's probably going to be hard to not look back to see you leaving your hometown and all that,'" Staley added. "And I said to her, 'Don't look back, you're always going to be a Gamecock, always going to be welcomed here.'"

Before Dawn Staley's comments, it was rumored on social media that MiLaysia Fulwiley wanted to come back to South Carolina days after entering the portal.

It was also rumored that the guard left the program because her mother wanted her to chase a bigger NIL figure. However, the guard has since come out to clear those rumors, saying that her move was not motivated by money.
