Jason Sudeikis, actor and comedian, has long been a supporter of women's College Basketball. Last season, he was often seen cheering for Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and he continued his support this year by attending the South Carolina vs. UCLA matchup on Sunday. Fox College Hoops shared a video of the actor sitting courtside, alongside the caption:
"Jason Sudeikis is here enjoying this top 5 matchup."
Before becoming a fan of Clark and the Hawkeyes, Sudeikis was a lifelong supporter of the Kansas Jayhawks. Although born in Virginia, he was raised in Kansas and considers it his home state. He was a rising point guard before he switched his career to comedy.
"I started playing organized [basketball] in fourth grade and I was decent," Sudeikis said in 2013, via ESPN. "When I transferred schools -- this will be a common theme, by the way -- because a Catholic school opened in our parish, we went to Holy Cross and won the CYO championship in fifth grade."
Brendan Curran, Sudeikis' former teammate in school, shared a peek into the comedian's playing style in 2013:
"His career now as a performer, it was pretty similar as a basketball player. When we were in eighth grade, he was doing all the Pistol Pete stuff. He could do different tricks. He was very fond of making no-look passes and was pretty good at them. He's a performer now -- he was a performer then, too." [h/t ESPN]
Jason Sudeikis on supporting women's sports
During an appearance on “The Bird and Taurasi Show” show in April, Jason Sudeikis revealed that one of his sisters played College Basketball. It was a big reason behind him getting into NCAAW.
He also added that having a daughter played a big part in him showing up for the games. However, his initial interest in women's sports began with the England women's soccer team.
“It started with getting the opportunity to be in the UK when the England national women’s team won the Euro,” Sudeikis said. "This was in 2022, when the Lionesses win their first-ever major women’s championship. The actor was in London filming his famous show, 'Ted Lasso.'"
The comedian went viral during the National Championship game in April for sporting a "Everyone Watches Women's Sports" t-shirt. Earlier this year, during the John Wooden Award show, Jason Sudeikis gifted Caitlin Clark a personalized AFC Richmond jersey from his hit show.
