Miami Hurricanes guard and social media sensation Haley Cavinder has college basketball fans up in arms over some comments she made. Cavinder spoke candidly about the inequities female athletes face, stirring strong reactions from fans.
Speaking with Moira Forbes at the Under 30 Summit in Cincinnati, Haley Cavinder, the co-founder of Hustle Beauty, shared her insights on building a successful brand. She also opened up about the struggles women face in sports:
"I feel like nowadays women or in the past have always been put in a box," Haley said. "But there's way more to come to a female athlete than just their sport."
"It's just a great time for us to be able to continue to push that and understand that you're not just your sport, you're not just basketball and there's way more that comes with that."
Her comments struck a chord with many fans, sparking both criticism and praise.
"Stop whining and focus on your job. There is way more to everyone's life," one fan responded.

"There’s more to everybody than just what they do, what is the point of this," another person chimed in.

"If you’re an athlete, then the only reason why people care what you have to say is because of your sport," another commented.

"while very true it’s prolly better to focus on the sports for now to increase revenue, viewership, sponsorships, collaborations, partnerships etc..," a fan suggested.

"Women supporting women ✨️ 🥰," one fan agreed.

"There def is more to female athletes, like so much, endless!" another one said.
